Hear from one of our team about their career pathway.

Jay – Exercise Physiologist / Area Manager Southern NSW

Jay has been with the Procare Group for over 4 years.  Before Procare life, Jay ran his own successful business for 8 years in exercise physiology and remedial massage.

Why did you choose the move to occupational rehab?

I was ready for a change and a new challenge. I had built a very good reputation for myself and my business in the area so it wasn’t an easy decision to move away from it but I wanted to explore my options.  I grew tired of working evenings and weekends and had a few friends who worked in occupational rehabilitation. Over the years I grew to learn more about it and came to thinking it was the right fit for me and my family.

How did the move initially work for you?

The first year was tough as I was still operating my business, albeit winding it down, and working at Procare as a Rehabilitation Consultant at the same time.  I knew it was the right move for me and it was good to stop working evenings and weekends eventually and spend more time with my family.  It also quickly became clear how many different career opportunities were available in occupational rehabilitation.

Procare have always been supportive in developing my career and supporting me to grow. I always knew I wanted to progress my career into management and worked hard to progress to a senior role with Procare.

In my time with Procare I have seen the career pathways and opportunities increase and become more varied. Procare is constantly evolving and really focuses on the development of their staff.

Where is your career now?

Five months ago, I moved into my role as ‘Area Manager Southern NSW’. My role has been newly created to support the growth of the business and our rehab services.  Being part of a constantly evolving company such as Procare genuinely excites me.  The opportunities are developed around our people with their skills and strengths taken into consideration – it’s not about fitting people to a role it is about fitting a role to people.

I originally wanted to move to a team leader role as I knew this is where my skills and strengths lie. I have worked hard throughout my career and with my managers to get to this point.  My responsibilities as Area Manager Southern NSW are to oversee the Procare rehab services delivered across the south of the state, develop a strong team and build on our already strong presence in the area.

Where to from here?

I am excited about the growth of the Procare business in the area and my role as Area Manager. It is really important to me that we continue to deliver high quality services.  We have recently moved into a new office in Wollongong which is a great start to another chapter for Procare!  It is a multi-divisional office and an opportunity to share great practice with the diversity of services we provide as a company to our customers.

We are recruiting for Rehabilitation Consultants to come on board and I am keen to hear from allied health professionals seeking full time, part time, casual or contracting roles!

If you are an allied health professional and looking to either commence your career in occupational rehabilitation or make a move from clinical, contact us today for more information [email protected] or visit our website www.procaregroup.com.au
